Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, in northern
Spain and is one of the very hot spots of Europe, drawing millions
of visitors each year to experience its exciting cultural life and
architectural splendor. It is located on the Mediterranean Sea in
the very northern part of Span. It is the most cosmopolitan and
most economically progressive city in Spain, although not the largest,
with a population of about 1.5 million people.
Barcelona has a long and proud history, and there are strong influences
of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture all around the
city but it is perhaps its more recent Modernist architecture which
best captures the flair and vitality of this young person's city,
which has a reputation for never sleeping. Among the younger generation
you have just not arrived if you have not yet been to Barcelona.
Barcelona has also gained an increasing reputation as an exciting
shopping centre. If you fancy going shopping in Barcelona, even
if you don't plan to purchase anything, shopping and window shopping
is a real treat. If you are looking for the shopping districts in
Barcelona, don't worry, they are not hard to find and almost all
are within walking distance.
You will experience lively bustling crowds and helpful friendly
shop assistants. The shopping areas are easily found and the shops
themselves are full of original trinkets of all different kinds.
Then of course there are the many outdoor restaurants offering typical
Mediterranean cuisine. Welcome to Barcelona, Catalonia's capital
city.
