Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, in northern Spain and is one of the very hot spots of Europe, drawing millions of visitors each year to experience its exciting cultural life and architectural splendor. It is located on the Mediterranean Sea in the very northern part of Span. It is the most cosmopolitan and most economically progressive city in Spain, although not the largest, with a population of about 1.5 million people.

Barcelona has a long and proud history, and there are strong influences of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture all around the city but it is perhaps its more recent Modernist architecture which best captures the flair and vitality of this young person's city, which has a reputation for never sleeping.
